At Gourmand!, we love to offer you the French classics, but we also try to do it in a way to provide something different, something unique.

Our shortcrust is nothing like what you can find in the other shops.

We make it with vanilla powder (from our used vanilla pods, no waste), ground almond and lime zest which gives its particular and unique taste.

Then comes the crème pâtissière. A kind of custard, but it is not a custard as you know it in England. We use vanilla pods and vanilla infused sugar to make it even more delicious.

Then come the fruits. Well Mother Nature did a pretty good job so we won’t do anything other than slicing them. The tart is glazed using a French glazing to make it look beautiful, delicious, indulgent, gourmand.

DID YOU KNOW? At the beginning of the 20th century, the Tatin sisters, owner of a restaurant at Lamotte-Beuvron, centre region of France, wanting to bake a tart, forgot the pastry. They decided to put the pastry on top and baked it like that. They then turned the tart upside down before serving it. 

That’s how they invented Tatin's tart.

Another French classic: the Opéra Cake.

Layers of almond sponge cake (known as Joconde cake in French) soaked in coffee syrup, layered with chocolate ganache and coffee French buttercream covered in a chocolate glaze with a lovely decoration.

Tarte au citron meringuée (Lemon Meringue)

Made with organic lemon only to provide full flavour, the French lemon curd has this particular balance between the sourness or the lemon and sweetness. Sharp but gentle. Topped with an Italian meringue to bring a touch of softness and sweetness.

All this sitting on top of our unique shortcrust made with almond flour, lime zest and vanilla seeds to bring a subtle extra taste.

Layers of sponge cake soaked in vanilla syrup and filled with crème diplomate (mix of crème patissière and chantilly) and fresh strawberries and topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. Perfect for Spring and Summer.

Chocolate & Pear Bavarian Cream Cake.

The base is made of almond crunchy biscuit, topped with praliné and crispy lace crêpes, topped with pears in milk chocolate and covered by chocolate mousse.
